Starting a home business can be one of the most rewarding and most exciting decisions you can ever make.

What do companies like Apple Computer, Hershey Chocolate, Mary Kay Cosmetics, and the Ford Motor Company have in common?

They all started out as home businesses.

Over half of all U.S. businesses are based out of an owner's home. In fact, the most practical and cost effective way to start a business may be starting a business from home first before investing in rent and equipment.

Even though starting a home based business has many rewards and challenges, it can also be a frightening and expensive decision, without a practical guide to follow.

The difference between reward and failure when starting a home business is simply having the right information about what to do and more importantly HOW to do it.

If you do not have a great new concept or product (most of us don't), buying an existing business or buying into a franchise can be a good option. This option reduces the risk, because you are buying into an existing and proven system. The downside to this option is the sheer cost of buying into someone else's system.

If you are like me, and like most people I know, you don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend. If this is the case, then your least expensive option is starting a home business.

Options available for a home business include network marketing also known as multi level marketing, direct selling, and consulting.

Network Marketing options allow you to leverage a home business system that is already developed and proven. With these options, it is not necessary to create your own systems from scratch to generate an income. The system has already been created and you just need to follow it.
